Ask Claude: 'Show me dentists near [your zip code] that accept [insurance plan].' Screenshot the answer. Note which practices come up and what sources Claude cites. Most likely it references Google Business profiles, review sites, or practice websites.
If your practice doesn't appear in that answer, or if your Google Business profile says 'Accepts insurance' but doesn't list the specific carriers, the patient sees you as uncertain about what insurance you actually take. If your website doesn't state your payment plans, a patient asking for that information has no source for an answer about your practice.
Where dentists lose the answer
- Google Business 'Accepts insurance' is unchecked or lists only outdated plans. No, 'We accept major insurance' doesn't count because AI needs the specific carriers.
- Website insurance FAQ is out of date. Many practices update their insurance when plans renew but never refresh the page.
- Payment-plan details are vague. Patients ask about CareCredit, in-office plans, and monthly payment options. If your site says 'We offer financing' without details, AI moves to the next dentist.
- Business hours are inconsistent across your Google Business and website. AI sees conflicting data and doesn't cite either.
- New-patient forms or intake pages are hard to find or are locked behind a login. AI can't see them, so it can't tell new patients what to expect.
You don't have to rebuild your site. You need to update three places: your Google Business profile (accepts insurance, specific carriers, payment options), your website's new-patient FAQ or insurance page (link to it from your homepage), and your new-patient intake form if it's online (make sure it's crawlable, not behind a registration wall).
What patients actually ask AI
- 'Which dentists near [zip] accept Delta Dental and offer payment plans?'
- 'Best dentist for root canal + no nitrous sensitivity?'
- 'Dentist near me that does same-day cleanings?'
- 'Is my dentist any good? What are real reviews saying?'
Notice which queries touch your Google Business and insurance page, and which rely on reviews. If your Google Business is incomplete and your website insurance page is stale, you get cited by the competitor whose details are current.
A one-hour audit for your practice
- Open your Google Business profile. Check: Accepts insurance (toggle + carriers), payment options, hours, and phone.
- Open your website. Find your insurance FAQ or new-patient page. Make sure it names your carriers and payment plans.
- Ask Claude (not Bing, not Google): 'What can you tell me about [your practice name] [your city]?' Screenshot the answer. Did it cite your site, insurance page, or Google Business?
- Search Google for '[your practice name] insurance accepted.' Note whether your own site or Zocdoc/Healthgrades ranks first.
If Claude can't answer payment or insurance questions about your practice, patients won't find you either. The free audit at netwebmedia.com/free-audit.html checks exactly this: how AI sees your insurance, hours, new-patient process, and what it recommends instead. If you would rather have it done for you, the AEO Fix Sprint implements the report's fixes on your site in 5 business days.
