Think in ranges.

A five-minute, play-money lesson on making decisions with groups of hands—not guessing one exact holding.

1

The situation

You are on the button in a six-player practice game. Everyone folds to you. Your decision starts with position: only two players remain.

The range idea

A range is the full set of hands a player could reasonably hold in this spot. Late position usually permits more starting hands because fewer opponents are left to act.

Ask: “What hands make sense here?” before asking: “What exact hand do they have?”

The practice decision

In a learning exercise, A♠8♥ can be part of a button opening range. That does not make it an automatic play: stack depth, player tendencies, and the exercise goal still matter.
